Perfect Presents For Mom
|
Every year we search our brains for a unique, exciting gift for Mom. We have bought flowers, candy, jewelry, pictures of our kids and us. But this year, we want something really different, something really special. We have prepared a list of suggestions that might just fit the bill.
1. Create a website for your mother to share with her friends and family. You can add pictures of her as she was growing up. Or turn the site into a tour with pictures of all of her vacations that you can find from friends and relatives. Take old family photographs and turn them into a family genealogy tree. Make a sweetheart page and add pictures of all of her grandchildren as her sweethearts. You can also write a page that just tells her how wonderful you think she is. List all the times that she was there for you or inspired you to do something. Can be a great bragging page to her friends or just make her feel better and loved every time she clicks in and reads it.
2. If your Mom isn't an Internet user, you can create a love book. Add photos of her children as they were growing up. Each one will bring back a special story to your Mom. Find old cards she has collected over the years and put them together in a memory book. And memories of your childhood can be written as Letters to Mom. Write about the times she listened to your sadness and your joy. Tell her how important it was to have those private little talks with her. Thank her for how she taught you how to fish, or how to sew.
3. Create a "do-gooder" jar. Add little notes on how you will do good things for her during this next year. These little notes will be promises that she can pick out the jar each week. They may be mowing her yard, picking up your room, an afternoon ice cream date, vacuuming the house without complaining, painting the outside of her house, or taking her on a picnic.
4. Treat your Mom to a Day at the Spa. Most Spas have gift coupons for massages, mud bathes, and all of their tempting delights. If you live in the same area, make it a Mother and Child day followed by lunch. If you live in another city or state, call a Spa close to your Mom and purchase the gift coupon to be sent to your mother.

New Ways To Use Old Christmas Cards
Forty years ago when I was growing up on our dairy farm in Wisconsin, my mother always saved the Christmas cards she had received in the mail. In those days, people sent many more Christmas cards than they do now.Today, I still find myself saving the cards that I get each Christmas. When the holiday season is over, I take them down off the dining-room side of our kitchen cabinets. I look at each one and think about the person who sent it. Then I tuck the cards into Christmas canisters and store them with my Christmas decorations. The next year when I take the decorations out, I discover the cards and then I look through them again. They are still much too pretty to throw away, but unfortunately,...(related: Holidays)

Honoring Our Fathers
This weekend as we celebrate Father's Day, take an opportunity to express gratitude for the many wonderful fathers we see giving their love, support and guidance to our children on a daily basis.Personally, in my own life, I am surrounded by them. From my own father, to my father-in-law, my husband and the many friends I am blessed to have. I see them at the supermarket, holding their child while attempting to shop; on the street riding their bikes, with their children cautiously proceeding ahead; at the gymnasium, proudly watching their daughter attempt her first cartwheel and at church gently kissing their son on the cheek.Although mothers have typically been the nurturer in our society, father...(related: Holidays)
15 Ways To Create Some Extra Holiday Money
Originally this was going to be a list for my two teenagers but some of these ideas are better suited to adults with a valid driver's license and a bit of know-how. Some of these take a bit of planning and organizing, but most of them could be done on a fairly spur of the moment case by case basis. The great thing about a lot of these ideas is that you're spreading holiday cheer by helping to make someone else's otherwise stressful and overwhelming to-do list a little bit easier. Who wouldn't pay to have someone come do a few of these things for you? Mostly, what's important is that you remember to provide a quality item or se...(related: Holidays)
The Gift My Brother Couldnt Give
From the book A Heartland Christmas CollectionIn the first years after my brothers, sister, and I left home, there were several Christmases in which our ability to give fell far short of our desire. In fact, we often found ourselves getting very creative if we were going to give any Christmas presents at all. But those early Christmases also contained some of the finest gifts I've ever received, and one of those was the gift my brother Jim thought he couldn't give.Jim h...(related: Holidays)

A Resolution Worth Keeping
New Years Resolutions: Making them is a tradition -keeping of them is usually optional. That's unfortunate, because some of the pledges we make in those moments before the calendar changes are wonderful things to aspire to - spending more time with our children, exercising regularly, stopping a bad habit like smoking - or considering chocolate one of the main food groups. Yet, this is the one time of th...(related: Holidays)
